Effective March 30, Ontario Works hours of operations for services to the public are Monday to Friday, from 2 to 4 p.m. Available services include cheque pick up and assistance with urgent inquiries. For clients not registered for Direct Bank Deposit, cheque pick-up is available at Ontario Works offices in Barrie, Orillia, Collingwood, Alliston and Midland. Clients from Bradford West Gwillimbury must attend the Ontario Works office in Barrie for cheque pick-up. Clients are strongly encouraged to register for Direct Bank Deposit. To do so, please contact your Caseworker by telephone at 705-722-3132. Please note that your monthly financial assistance will not be impacted by the pandemic, regardless if you receive funds by cheque or direct bank deposit. Appointments will be completed by phone only. At this time, you are not required to submit any paperwork as part of the application process for Ontario Works assistance or to request necessary benefits. Please keep all paperwork, including your monthly Statement of Income, as your Caseworker will request documents at a future date. Effective immediately, the government is providing enhanced supports including: For people not currently receiving social assistance: Ontario Works helps people who are in temporary financial need. It includes Emergency Assistance for Ontarians who are in a crisis or facing an unexpected emergency, have no access to other supports and are unable to meet basis living expenses. Access to Emergency Assistance may be available to those who are waiting for new COVID-19 support from the federal government to become available. Applicants may be eligible for up to 48 consecutive days of assistance. For people who are already receiving social assistance: Ontario Works provides a range of health related discretionary benefits to those in receipt of social assistance. People in receipt of Ontario Works or Ontario Disability Support Assistance may be eligible for discretionary benefits such as: Dental Care for Adults, Vision Care for Adults, Dentures, Prosthetic Devices and, other Items for Health Related Reasons Discretionary benefits now include assistance with costs related to hand sanitizer, masks or additional cleaning supplies due to the need to self-isolate or quarantine. Requests will be reviewed on a case by case basis. The maximum benefit available is $100 for single individuals and $200 for couples/families. Additional Information for Wage Earners Applications for the Canadian Emergency Response Benefit (CERB) will open on April 6th through the Government of Canada website.
